In Joey the Good, the main character Joey is challenged by his cousin (and his dead grandfather) to hike Mt. Whitney - the tallest mountain in California.

Excerpt from JOEY THE GOOD -

I gave a disgusted grunt. “Come on. Quit messing. Why are you here?” I wadded up the empty baggy and shoved it in the pocket of my shorts.

A grin spread across Leo’s face. “To do something epic.”

He stood up like he couldn’t contain himself and flung his pack onto his shoulders. His eyes were bright and wired, like this “epic” thing was lighting him up from the inside.

He blinked a few times and then put his sunglasses on again. “We’re gonna climb the highest mountain in America, man. In the lower forty-eight states anyway. I already got the permits, Giovanni. August 21. We’re going up and down Mount Whitney in one day.”
